My Daddy Has PTSD is a dramatized story told by a child about the life he has with his Dad, a military veteran living with the symptoms of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). The book depicts how problem solving cushions the effect that PTSD symptoms might have on the child. The 26 page book provides positive strategies to help children have a safe, supportive family experience. As a retired classroom teacher and teacher trainer for developmental education with great respect for the military, my goals are to provide strategies to protect and comfort children whose parent(s) are affected by PTSD and to increase awareness and community understanding of PTSD symptoms. 3 pages of creative strategies are featured at the back of the book with many activities/ideas that would also support and provide structure for all children. Published as a fund-raiser for Vets to Vets, United, a group of veterinarians training support dogs for disabled military veterans, copies may be purchased for personal use, as gifts for military families, and/or donation to Veteran Administration therapy waiting rooms. Sales are tax deductible.
